Time Management Counseling

 

Time management is consciously controlling the amount of time spent on specific activities to increase efficiency and productivity.

Various skills, processes, tools and techniques can be used to manage time to accomplish specific tasks, projects and goals. These may include:

  • planning
  • allocating
  • setting goals
  • delegating
  • analyzing time spent
  • monitoring
  • organizing
  • scheduling
  • prioritizing

Time management is needed on most projects since it determines the project scope and completion time.

Time management strategies

1. Create a simple "To Do" list - Develop a list of items to be done, the reason for doing them and timeline for getting them done. Then print the list and post it to remind you.
2. Use a daily/weekly planner - Write down appointments, classes and meetings on a book or chart. If you are more visual, sketch out your schedule. Review the planner first thing in the morning to see what’s ahead for the day. Always go to sleep knowing you’re prepared for tomorrow.
3. Use a long term planner - Use a monthly chart to plan ahead. Long term planners also serve as a reminder to constructively plan time for yourself.
